Last month, Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District lost a cherished friend, colleague, and music teacher, Ms. Kate Smoker. Canterbury has planned a tribute concert in memory of Ms. Smoker, for the students and families of Canterbury Elementary School for Thursday, May 15, 6:30-7:30 PM at the school. It will be a very special interactive & family friendly event featuring performances by Kates friends & music colleagues. Additionally, students are working with Ida Bergsen, Canterbury art teacher and Kates close friend, to create a memorial bench with mosaic tiles, to be permanently installed on the school grounds next fall. The Canterbury PTA is still collecting donations for Ms. Smokers family, and some of the concert donations will be used to create a music scholarship in her name.
