Last month I mentioned a new horse. Here is his story....we have named him BEN Mayanna writes:.... In October 2014 a friend of mine who lives in Mamre, asked if I could please help him by going to Darling to collect a wild horse, that he had been given. This pretty, delicate fellow, had no idea how to walk while being led. He would not walk on to the ramp without being cajoled. I used pressure release and eventually he walked in but stood slightly side-ways so the gate could not be locked on to the middle partition. As I stepped forward to give him a slight push, all three guys in unison shouted at me to dont touch him!! hy skop!!” Well too late, my hand had reach forward and as my finger touch him he let out an almighty kick so hard that the partition flew into me and slammed me against the side of the box.....lots of bruising but thank goodness no broken bones . I was told that the reason he had been given the horse was because everyone was terrified of him and his kicking, they said kids had teased him perpetually and that now he kicked at anything and everything. That was when I heard about Ben..... I was asked if I would like to take him home with me. The owner said the horse thieves were continually stealing him and the owner did not want to see him suffer any more, he needed to go somewhere safe. I collected Ben the following week and brought him to the farm. He was extremely head shy and refused to allow us to look at his teeth.... We had noticed an unpleasant smell in his breath and decided it would be best to call a vet to castrate him and at the same time to look in his mouth while he was sedated . What I saw, literally took my breath away. At some stage in his life, horse thieves had tied binding string around his chin and tongue, so tight, it had cut off the circulation. Ben was one of the lucky ones, he didnt get gangrene, his tongue healed leaving a small strip of tongue muscle holding the back and front together. Such is the torture these poor creatures have to go through in the hand of horse thieves. We have now had him castrated and the dentist has done his work, if you would like to donate towards his costs, please do! We appreciate EVERY donation!
