Last month, as you know, a small jet crashed into a home on Drop Forge Lane (in greater Gaithersburg, just outside the City limits), killing its three passengers as well as three members of the Gemmell family who were inside of the home, which was destroyed. In the wake of this tragedy, Jenifer Miller, an employee at Dogfish Head Alehouse, who regularly served the Gemmell family, started a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to help raise money for the two surviving members of the family for funeral expenses and to help get them back on their feet. The campaign has raised nearly $500,000 from more than 10,000 donations from people both near and far. Simply amazing! On Monday evening, at our regular meeting, the City Council and I will be honoring Ms. Miller for her thoughtful and generous act - and for providing a way for the community to come together and help the Gemmell family. This is an outstanding example of how ordinary people do extraordinary good in our community. And Im looking forward to honoring her.
