Last month, the Taskforce on Hong Kong Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes concluded its public consultation on something it’s calling the ‘Draft HK Code’. The code, if put in place, is set to be the first in the world to control the packaging, quality and advertising of infant formula. It would strictly control the claims that formula companies can make on their packaging, and put an end to the distribution of free samples of formula in health care facilities. Most importantly, it would ban the advertising of formula and formula-related products (such as bottles and teats) to children aged under 36 months.
