Last night Brother Darin Gibbs brought a wonderful message from Matthew 22:37 -39, And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. We all know these verses so well we dont even think about the true meaning anymore. Darin has such a burden for us at First Church to be all we can be for Christ. To really think about what the second commandment says, the second is like it like what, like the first. What does the first say Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind. So is he saying we are to love our neighbors as ourself to the same degree? Of course we love God above all else but He also expects us to love others as much as we do ourselves. THIS IS LOVING GOD. Showing Christ to others. Loving them no matter how they live. Jesus died for their sins too. Love unconditionally. As he spoke I could feel the burden he was so desperately trying to communicate to us. If we expect to win the lost at any cost, we must first love them with the same love Christ had for us when he died for us. Love unconditionally. We will never love to the fullest degree as Christ because we are still only human and were not perfect but we are to do everything humanly possible to love like Christ. If we at First Church would all love that way and reach out to the community with unconditional love, we could actually make a difference... But it must start with each one individually. One can make a difference. So this is my prayer, Lord, help me to love others unconditionally. Not expecting anything in return but expecting nothing but to see a broken world come to know Christ in all His glory. Make me a light so bright in my community that my neighbors will want to know you. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen! Can this be your prayer too?
