Last night I caught up with a very creative, energetic director of a leading architecture practice, and part-time university lecturer. Her leadership philosophy is informed by years of experience in film and theatre and an insatiable curiosity fundamental to individual and professional development. We spoke of the general corporate "glass ceiling" which has caused many senior level women to leave and pursue entrepreneurial success, the "Margaret Thatcher syndrome" and the fact our architecture uni students are still learning about "the dead white guy" of yesteryear. To my delight, she also explained the conceptual similarity between directing for camera or stage and leading any organisational team towards a desired outcome. "A Shift in Power: The New Agenda" is the working title of my freelance article exploring the profiles of women who successfully become contenders in the corporate male arena.
