Last night, I had the honor of presenting De Afghanan Kabob House, one of the first Afghan-American establishments in the city of Fremont, with the Assembly District 20 Small Business of the Year Award. De Afghanan is a cultural staple and community hub in the city of Fremont, California providing delicious Afghan Food to the tri-cities. The Omar brothers are known for making great food and giving back to the community, especially for their work creating the Afghan Soccer Club (ASC) teaching basic soccer techniques to the youth, promoting both mental and physical health while keeping kids off the street. Aziz Omar gave a heartwarming speech about his life story in the United States and how proud he was to be recognized on this occasion not only on behalf of himself and his family, but also on behalf of the Afghan-American community. I wish him many more years of success promoting Afghan culture and delicious food and helping the local economy in the city of Fremont!
