Government releases new guidelines for medical admissions The government has come up with new guidelines for medical admissions, rejecting the demands of private medical colleges for having their own independent Common Entrance Test (CET) to fill management quota seats. The government has made it compulsory for the private colleges to create a list of all the candidates shortlisted by them for admissions in management quota and send it to Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) to examine and approve. This step has been taken by the government to prevent multiple-blocking of medical seats by those with handsome amount of wealth. On the basis of a candidates performance in the qualifying examination, a list is to be created. Eighty-five per cent of weightage will be given to the exam and 15 per cent of weightage will be given to the interview round. The government has also said that no private medical college should show favoritism in issuing application forms for admissions. The private college is supposed to issue application forms for anybody who has applied and also provide a receipt of the application received. It is now obligatory for private medical colleges to form a selection committee that will hold interviews of candidates. The committee should consist of a chairman (Dean, Principal or College Director), senior faculty and one member from management committee of the college.
