~~The Turntable Record Review~~ The Textones - Midnight Mission (Single) The Textones The Textones was formed in 1979 by Carla Olson and future Go-Gos bassist Kathy Valentine. They were considered to be a power pop/roots rock band with origins in Austin, Tx but formed in Southern California. Valentine left the group in 1980 to join the Go-Gos. Carla Olson was the lead singer with a rich warm alto voice. Their first album was Midnight Mission released on Gold Mountain and A&M records in 1984. Don Henley along with Gene Clark sing background vocal and harmonies on the title track Midnight Mission. Its a great laid back song with that Southern California country flavor that we all loved from the late 1970s. Despite having Mr. Henley and Gene Clark the single Midnight Mission only reached the position #109 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Its definitely worth the listen though and you can hear Mr. Henleys strong harmonies coming through.
