Last night I had the misfortune to play the Coach & Horses in Carshalton. To begin...loading is on a red route on a junction. Its rather bijou so I took a minimum of kit, just as well. The Can I come up and sing? brigade were out in force and when told that they couldnt would fix you with a cold hard stare all night. The atmosphere could be best summed up as menacing. Friends that took the trouble to come and see us all made their excuses and left early, probably fearing for their lives. It always amazes me that people can see youve got a female singer and still they ask for songs by obvious baritone artists (Elvis, Tom Jones etc). Im sure that these same people, if confronted by, say, a Led Zep tribute band, would still ask for Sweet Caroline. To be honest, I played badly last night because I was concentrating more on the dramas that were unfolding in front of me and the drunken idiot who was spiraling out of control and threatening to crash head-first into the gear. The fact that the pub has in recent months been closed by the council for various offences tells you all you need to know. Avoid at all costs.
