Last night I heard Pacific Symphony perform Shostakovichs Symphony - TopicsExpress

Last night I heard Pacific Symphony perform Shostakovichs Symphony No. 10 and Piano Concerto No. 2. What. An. Evening. Alexander Toradzes piano-shaped extension of his soul had ownership of my jaw. I think I was a mouth-breather for the entire second movement; the smooth, quiet beauty moved me through time while suspending time. Pacific Symphony is brilliant not only in their musicality, but also in educating us in the audience. They prepared us with history and Shostakovich insights to better appreciate and understand the composer and the Soviet oppression of his creativity. Stalin himself critiqued his music, and Shostakovich feared for his life. Oh, how I appreciate my present freedoms; I can write any music I wish and not worry about government thugs coming after me. I hope these freedoms last; we Americans are actively reminding the president of our country that the Constitution outlines THREE branches of government, not one. Heres that second movement. Beauty and pain and beauty and beauty. Imagine hearing this music live. Oh, oh, oh.
