Last night I launched a request for assistance in planning for the Sri Chinmoy 3100 mile footrace this summer. I am amazed and deeply touched by the outpouring of support for this upcoming effort at 3100 miles. Every contribution, regardless of size, and some are embarrassingly large, is a vote of confidence in the sport of ultra-running that I love so much, and in me as an ultra-runner. The confidence displayed in this support surpasses that which I feel inside, that which has led me on this quest in the first place. I am no longer running, merely to test myself, merely to see if I can complete this run. I am now running as a thank you to those who believe in me. Those who with and without contributions have voiced their support for the sport and my attempt at this event. There have been donations from close friends, casual acquaintances, and complete strangers. I am overwhelmed. Some who I know have sacrificed from their budgets to support this effort help me realize what a wonderful world we live in, and how wonderful so many of the people we share this planet with are. I was reluctant to even begin this pleading for assistance until I looked at what people were doing in other areas of finding assistance for challenges and dreams. I was reluctant to make my needs known, to ask friends and strangers for support. I was assured by a few close trusted friends that there was no dishonor in this endeavor. That people like to have the opportunity to help. Those words of advice and support have proven true beyond my expectations. To each and every person who has donated, considered donating, or even to take the time to read of my upcoming event, I thank you. I encourage all to follow along as I test myself within this great sport and event. I hope I am able to justify and reward the confidence so many people have shown they have in me with their words and actions. The words seem paltry, but thank you all from the depths of my heart.
