Last night I let the dogs chill outside for a bit to enjoy the unusually cool weather. When I finally went out for my late-night smoke, Miles is the only one that came up to me and it took me a minute to realize it was silent otherwise. After about 10 minutes I called for Chei & Sully, who were nowhere to be found. So I called louder & louder to the point I could hear my voice ringing through the streets, because I found a get-a-way hole they dug under the fence. WAY later they both came from some far off direction & knowing they were in trouble. They didnt come in through the gate I opened for them, but crawled back under the fence & to the back of the house to hide. I picked up a stick (wuh-oh) and went around the house several times calling after them and they persisted to run around the house from me! Finally, seething I took my stick inside and said, Fine then, you both stay out there! Later, I heard them barking so I went and followed the bark and they ran again & hid. So I went back in again. And finally later as I went out for my final smoke & to throw the stick out, they were both waiting by the door. Chei ditches past me inside & Sully backs out to hide again. Cecil & I called him, real friendly like, and when he got near, Cecil nabbed him, where I took over, walked him to the fence & the hole, picked up my stick & gave him 3 well-earned whoppins on the behind. He ran inside and hid. This morning, as groggy as I was I called for him (because he did not sleep with us for once) and he came and nestled snuggly up to my heart, closed his eyes and whimpered, allowing me to hold him as long as I wanted. He absolutely knows I love him & ABSOLUTELY knows when hes whoppin worthy, otherwise he wouldnt hide! The thing for me is if I dont teach this boy, I LOVE with all my heart, about right from wrong, I may lose him one day to his own naivety. Chei, Miles & Sully are dogs, but theyre my babies. Love yours, punish yours as you see fit, but never cease to show them your undying love ~ Theyll know. ;>
