Last night I posted up about the myth of all UK bank accounts being guaranteed by the Govt. The guy I learned this off, the one with all the figures, did make very clear though that these figures were necessarily only an estimate, as the banks apparently claim that the exact number of personal accounts with them are a commercial secret. So hes done his best, through working backwards through the only figures available, to calculate the numbers of accounts with each bank. Using this system, it would appear that each average household in the UK has about 5 separate bank accounts. That sounded alot to me, and then I started counting how many we have, and then it became clear he was probably about right. I expect to receive the printed figures in a week or so, and if I do, \ill post the breakdown of them here.
