Last night I read an article about a Photographer who was sued - TopicsExpress

Last night I read an article about a Photographer who was sued over a wedding album... long story short, he won and didnt have to pay a dime to the client... good for him I guess. However, what didnt sit well with me, was his fee for that said album - $3,000 !!!! WOAH! Stop the presses! Literally! I think thats the problem right there! Granted it is his prerogative to charge as he sees fit and everyone has different standards and ideas about how to run their business... but $3k for an album?!!! NO. Is it golden plated? Are there hologram images? Does it come with its own audiobook? Pop-up book perhaps? I dont know. I just dont get it I guess. I refuse to ever reach the point in my business where I feel the need to make profit over a service I dont specialize in. For example, all prints, albums, CDs & DVDs, will only come with a tiny processing fee... because that is exactly what I am doing - processing! All of my gains and commissions will be derived from services rendered by my creative juices and skills. I might be looking at this the wrong way, but I think charging $3k for an album is a quick way to alienate clients and portray a cash cow to potential clients. That is not why I am in this business. I did not get into this business to make money off of prints or albums. So for any future clients, know that you are paying for my service, for my skills, for my talents, for my aesthetics, for my time, and not for me clicking a few buttons or processing some orders.
