Last night I was walking The Dog, and the sky was clear. I watched the Big Dipper, and thought about how it rotates around Polaris, but the two stars on the edge of the bucket always point to Polaris, and Polaris always points True North. This is an astronomic trick, of course, but it has been and will always be true, at least for the duration of human existence on our planet. This is only true in the Northern Hemisphere. South of the Equator, they have the Crux, or Southern Cross, from which you can find True South, but its much more complicated. But in the North, we can always see North.
