Last night I went to hang out with some friends on my non-gig - TopicsExpress

Last night I went to hang out with some friends on my non-gig night and then this musician that was playing live with his band that Ive not met before pointed my direction and called me to go on the mic to jam with his band. My friend went to me, hey, hes calling you up. Apparently, this musician recognized me and has heard of me. Its encouraging to know that even people Ive not met in the music scene recognizes me for what I do even when Im trying to go incognito or lay low on my non-gig nights just to spend time or catch up with some of my dancer friends (poppers, lockers, house dancers, salsa dancers, etc.). Hahaha. That was a first as its usually my musician friends rather than strangers that ask me to jump on stage with them. Come to think of it I dont think I truly have non-gig nights if I happen to be at a venue with live music no matter how low I may lay. Ill just end up on the mic somehow even when I dont call for any attention. This happened two out of the two times recently on my non-gig nights and I ended up performing for a crowd with a live band when I wasnt expected to. And both of those recent times I wasnt even at the venue for too long before they asked me to join their band. We got the crowd dancing. Was fun. My friends really got a kick out of that last night. Talk about spontaneity and being ready for beatbox action at any given moment. In truth I love jamming with other musicians and bands. That was how spontaneous it was when Jake Shimabukuro asked me to jump on stage with him during one of his in-store concerts in 2006. I believe that was my first time collaborating with a musician. Hahaha. Good times!
