Last night I went to the opening night of American Ballet Theatres 75th season at the Koch Theatre in Lincoln Center. Elias Baseman and two girls from the JKO school opened the show. It was an amazing show highlighted by the world premieres of both the student piece Elias was in that was choreographed by ABT resident choreographer and former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, Alexei Ratmansky, and a new piece by Liam Scarlett called With a Chance of Rain. I think it is the best he has done, and it was definitely enhanced by the incredible talent and artistry of the ABTdancers. Special mention goes to Sterling Baca, a young corps member who danced a principal role just as well as the other three male principals. Also brushing past me during intermission were Alessandra Ferri, Wendy Whelan, and Alec Baldwin having a serious discussion with his wife. Elias went to the banquet and later to the after party held by Omar Sharifs same name grandson. A wonderful and fun night.
