Last night, Maddie was told that she would need an IV in addition to her central line being accessed so that they could give her a platelet transfusion while her 24 hour dose of methotrexate is being run, and she could get her spinal tap with chemo as scheduled. Her platelet count is 14, in order to get the spinal tap they need to be at least 50.. She was crying and really upset at the thought of the IV, so I asked the team if the chemo could be stopped while the platelets are given or if they could do the IV and run the platelets while she was already in the OR under anesthesia. So the team met, agreed to hold the spinal tap until tomorrow when she has a 3 hour window between chemo doses. A very accommodating gesture and a lot of calculating went into the decision. When Maddie is told the decision, she says, Nah, we can just do the IV and the spinal tap today, I dont want to wait LOL Last time I get fooled by those crocodile tears!

So, I am about to drop the mic on the desk in my K Street office.
