Someone asked me Omari What can you blame the low patronage of saturdays event on? Heres my response. The freedom concert was one of the best planned and satisfactorily promoted contemporary gospel concerts ever. Personally I was so impressed with the level of quality I saw at the stadium and frankly I naturally expected the whole place to be packed. However on my way to the event I rationalized something different.. by the way I met Preecy KimBurrel Okornoe while I was trekking down around the conference center to the stadium.... She was awesome company. So I thought,- the number of people at every concert is a representation of the exact number of people who care for such a concert. If 10 people attend a concert, probably 50 more people would have wished to be there but couldnt make it for whatever reason. So in a nutshell, I deduced that contemporary gospel music lovers are not many. i dont know the number that came that day but it shows how many people care for contemporary music in Ghana. It had nothing to do with the organisers. The causal factors are numerous- low sense of music variety appreciation, generally low public infiltration(were cooped up in facebook *bite me*), gap between contemps and trad. artists, etc. Traditional(mainstream) gospel music lovers are probably more- well who am I kidding? They are indeed many. They buy CDs, they attend concerts, they pay more, etc. Im guessing that hypothetically, If some mainstream gospel artists decided to come together hold a concert at the stadium maybe they willl record a higher number. I wont even mention secular artists. We all know how big their following is. Even Sonnie filled the place- he appeals to both contemps and trads and well their promotion levels are whooping! I think contemps concerts are numerous. There is one every weekend . People literary try to ask me why I continue to always attend.... its the same people every week! Dont I get fed up? Well I dont but others do... Contemporary music lovers have seen all the big names in that genre before... well maybe too many times. So missing one concert really means nothing... Any and every excuse for missing a concert is valid to them. Of course its not by force is it? Many even attend by obligation- my friend is singing so Im going to support, bla bla bla... So there are very few non- musical fans..um let me not even get into that. All Im saying is, people are okay with skipping a contemp concert because well there will be another! I guess its true what they say- what we do is ministry and not much of artisty. I think were content with what we do. We even secretly have a problem with contemporary gospel artists. We prefer them to remain ministers... (lolz thats for another day) Well there is nothing wrong with all of this... Thats just how our type of music is for now...Ministry is not necessarily about the multitude anyway...but hopefully it will all change... our contemp artists are opening up and doing so well commercially (as brands). Big ups to Joe, Akesse, and Cwesi. Theres so much Ivent said tho lol..
