Last night, Ottawa was very lucky to have great Cuban musicians play an amazing concert organized by the Latin Women Entrepreneurs of Ottawa-Gatineau (melog.ca). People couldnt help getting up to dance. Check out the video-clip to get a taste of the excitement. The musicians: Miguel Angel de Armas Master pianist/composer Miguel Angel de Armas was born in Havana, Cuba. At the early age of nine, he started his musical studies at the Conservatory Amadeo Roldan and later graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte with a Bachelor in Cuban Percussion. In 1988, he founded together with prestigious Cuban musicians, coming most of them from Irakere, the legendary NG La Banda Orchestra. For over a decade he toured and performed in over 30 countries including the most important jazz festivals and cultural events of the world, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Nice Jazz Festival, Nantes Jazz Festival, Normandia Jazz Festival, Color Café Festival, Río de Janeiro Film Festival, and many others. During his musical career, he has recorded over 50 albums, some of them for outstanding record labels and collaborated with Cuban artists like Chucho Valdes e Irakere, Los Van Van, Pablo Milanés, Compay Segundo, Orquesta La Revé, Orlando Valle Maraca, Robertico Carcassés, just to mention some of them. https://ottawajazzscene.ca/upcoming-shows/9573-miguel-de-armas-quartet-at-latin-nightfiesta-latina-at-library-and-archives-canada Roberto Riverón Considered one of the best Cuban bass player. Born in Holguin, Cuba, Roberto Riverón studied guitar and bass at The National School of The Arts (ENA) in Havana. Roberto was a founding member of the legendary Cuban group Klimax and played on their first four CDs, contributing several arrangements, including that of “Regalo de Amor”, which he co-composed with Giraldo Piloto. He played on Isaac Delgado’s 2001 Grammy-nominated album “La fórmula” as well as on the compilation “La rumba soy yo” which won a Grammy award in the folk category that same year. Roberto worked with the Grammy Award-winning Cubanismo for more than six years, touring with them in Japan, The United States, Australia, Asia and Canada. Since moving to Canada in 2007, Riveron has performed and recorded with a with a diverse range of artists including Jane Bunnett, Amanda Martinez, Bill King, Jim Heineman, Eddie Bullen, Robi Botos, Luis Mario Ochoa, Hilario Duran, Miguelito Valdez, Glenda Del E, Elmer Ferrer, Penderecki String Quartet, Laura Fernandez, Café Cubano, Jorge Maza y Tipica Toronto, Telmary, Ralph Irizarry, Njacko Backo, Iroko, Poncho Sanchez, Chucho Valdez and many more. robertoriveron/bio/ Also the concert had the accomplished cuban musicians Arien Villegas (Ottawa-based conga player) Adan de Dios (Montreal-based singer) and Caridad Cruz (Gatineau-based singer).
