Last night a couple of friends and I went to La Monte Young & Marian Zazeelas Dream House installation in TriBeca and hung for a bit. Ive been there multiple times and am always blown away by its simplicity, honesty, and beauty. Last night, all that hit me and also I was just overwhelmed with the feeling of gratitude that Young & Zazeela, with their foundation MELA, have allowed the space to be open on such a consistent basis for anyone to come in, sit, contemplate, be, meditate, relax, engage, pray, fixate, however you wish to say it...to be still. The world is a wild place, at a wild pace, and there are so few dedicated spaces that allow people to have still time in public settings. Or at least, it is not always easy to realize where they are or how to access them. I travel a lot, and when not traveling I live and spend a lot of time in New York City which is one of the most active and engaging places on Earth. I love it. I love being surrounded in culture and being placed in a hotbed of activity - yet, I am also a huge fan of stillness, of meditation, and of dedicating time and space to the conscious practice of cultivating those moments in my life. When I was sitting last night I traveled to a lot of the spaces and methods in thought that have provided me with moments of stillness while traveling and while home in New York. I decided to make a blog with the intention of finding these places and methods and sharing them. Its not anything serious, Im not the best writer on the planet, and most of it will probably just be my own goofy self-explorations through space & stillness, yet if you have any interest in following it or knowing more, here is a link to the Tumblr: dedicatedspaces.tumblr/ Also, I made a facebook page that I will be posting on as well here: https://facebook/dedicatespace I will try to make a post every week or so, sometimes more, sometimes less. Seeing that La Monte Young & Marian Zazeelas piece kicked it off, the first post is dedicated to the Dream House. Enjoy!
