Last night at a Thai restaurant, Zara and I witnessed no less than 3 onscreen deaths in 3 consecutive Thai music videos. The melodramatic deaths typically take place during a 2 minute interlude in the song. The first guy kills himself by jumping off a relatively low bamboo bridge into shallow water, somehow drowning. The second is stabbed while saving a girl from a mugger. The third is also stabbed, but then recovers at the hospital before inexplicably being shot at the end of the music video, this time dying for good. So much death, and I felt really bad for laughing. Nobody else was. (Im not willing to outright say i think our domestic pop music is superior on any level, so Ill settle for merely implying so.)
