Last night at the… Sandbar & Grille in Buxton We had 28 players including two new registrations. The winner got a $50 Visa Gift Card and second place got a $20 Sandbar & Grille Gift Card. The donkey shout out goes to Paul Detwiler, one of our newer players. He got a donkey drink charm for being the first player eliminated from the game. The high hand bids started quite low. Jay Tolson started things off with two pair, Jacks over 9s. Antonio Favali, one of the new registrations topped that with his own two pair, Kings over 8s. Rob Anders raised the bar a bit when he hit Trip Jacks. Well Antonio didn’t appreciate being one-upped so he one-upped Rob by hitting a straight to the 7. Then Preston Anders hit an ce high heart flush. Then, Kayla Charrette and Aaron Williams split the pot on Quad 7s Ace hi that was all on the board… Yup, 7-7-7-7-A all on the board, and Aaron tried to bet Kayla out of the hand but she called and the pot was split so… They split the 2000 chips for hitting Quads or Better and they split the 2000 bonus chips banked for winning the High Hand for the night. Alex Bonner made it to yet another final table and placed 8th. It’s his 17th final of the year and he remains in control of the finals title race with a three game lead. Aaron Williams made it to his ninth final of the year and placed 7th. He is fifth in the points, gained five points on Alex in fourth and added ten points to his lead on Jennie Harris who is sixth in the points. Antonio Favali, the new registration I mentioned earlier, not only mixed it up in the high hand battle but had a good showing by making his first final table of the season in his first game with us. He placed 6th while playing with some of our top players in the league. Good J-O-B Toni… Welcome to the league. Parc Greene, always a pleasure, made it to his first final of the year placing 5th. Last year’s Win’s Title holder hasn’t had many chances to play with us this season until now. Word has it, that he will be more available for us and making more events… Not so good news for… everyone else. Me, I can’t wait to see what he does this season… At least you guys have a considerable lead on him, points wise. Just beware, he has something in common with Charlie Sheen, he likes winning. Eddie Ochs... just keeps plugging away. He made it to his 14th final and placed 4th. He looks to be Alex Bonner’s biggest threat for the Finals Title. He was Jeremy Stafford’s biggest threat for the points lead but that is no longer the case. It is Jeremy now that is the threat. Eddie moved into the points lead last night making Stizzle the stalker. The two of them have pulled away a bit from Troy Ahrendt in third but there is only an eight point difference between the two of them. This could get really fun to watch. Last year Eddie led the points for just about the entire season. Jeremy chased him down the last month and won the points title at the very last game of the season by seven points. Boxing had Frazier and Ali, football has Dallas and the Redskins, the cold war had Russia v. USA… HIPL has Eddie and Jeremy… I am looking forward to witnessing the epic battle that is before us. Rob Anders returned to the arena after covering for me the last couple of weeks with a real solid performance. He made it to his eighth final of the season and placed 3rd. He got some points back that he had to sacrifice so that I could go on my honeymoon. He moved up three spots in the points to eleventh and is looking to get back in the top ten. Steve Jones is in tenth with an eight point lead on Rob. They are both very good players/contenders. That ought to be another good battle to watch. So that left heads up play between Jay Tolson and Sonny Quidley. Jay is already qualified for the HIPL 2013 Island Championship but Sonny wasn’t. He is now though. Any ne placing first or second in any regular season point’s vent qualifies for the championship in Nov. Ok… So we’ve got Sonny and Jay, going back and forth with the chips and the blinds and the button. Rob is dealing so things are moving along at a good pace. Both of them are looking for their first win in this league. Sonny has been playing for… I don’t know how long. Jay started playing competitively, what, in Dec. He was also the finals leader for a good portion of the beginning of this season until Alex took over. Let’s set the stage… The blinds were up to 40K/80K... the clock was down to 6 minutes. Jay was in the small blind with the short stack, only 40K so he was all in blind. Sonny had 410K so he only had to call the 40 in the big blind. Could Jay go on a run and get his breakout win or would it be Sonny that gets his first win. Rob dealt the cards face up… Sonny drew J-8 suited-spades and Jay drew A-6 off-suit. The flop was 10-5-9… Jay is ahead with an Ace high and Sonny has an open ended straight draw. The turn was another 10… Jay is still ahead with a pair of 10s, Ace high. Sonny has a pair of 10s, Jack high with an open ended straight draw. Could Jay stay alive to fight for the win? Sonny had some outs now… a 7, 8, J or Q will win it… And the river was… a Queen. Sonny wins the hand and the game with a straight to the Queen. His total chip count was 450K. He won the Visa and Jay won the Sandbar gift card. Jay moved up two spots in the points to 8th. Hang in there Jay your day is coming. Sonny moved up 52 spots to 67th of 184 in only his second game this year. Well played Sonny. Loser’s lounge had eight players try to get some points out of the night and Eugene Clinton and Jennie Harris did just that. Jennie got bonus points for coming in second and Gene got bonus points and banked 2000 bonus chips for winning in the lounge. Don’t forget tonight’s Inaugural Event at Teach’s Island in Hatteras Village. Registration and sign-in start at 9pm… Game starts at 10. Banking for the Food Bank, Door Prizes, Drink Baskets, Big Money, Double Points and Bonus Chip Upgrades… The limo is running so call Bill at 252) 216-8771 for a safe roundtrip ride to the good times we call the HIPL…. Be there or hear about it.
