Last night marked our 3rd annual The First Tee of Benton Harbor Scholarship Banquet. The event took place in the Harbor Shores event tent, and we even reached a new attendance record with 165 supporters! The night was filled with good laughs, positive vibes, and great fun. Our guest speaker was none other than Whirlpool Corporations own, Jeff Noel! Benton Harbor High School Junior, and The First Tee College and Career Knowledge participant, Damarco James, also shared a few words about his positive and influential experience with the program. To top off the night, our 2014 The First Tee of Benton Harbor Scholarship recipient, Bennet Ryberg, a graduating Senior at St. Joseph High School, came up to receive his honor and shared his gratitude for The First Tee of Benton Harbor. Bennett spoke about The First Tee of Benton Harbor and how he didnt know where hed be right now without the support of the program. He also mentioned Executive Director Coach Sanders and how Coach has been a father figure for him over the past 10 years. Some of the criteria for being awarded The First Tee of Benton Harbor $5,000 annual scholarship are as follows: -Live and demonstrate The First Tee Nine Core Values and --The First Tee Healthy Habits -Be a member of TFTBH for at least two consecutive years -Maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average -Volunteer in the community and The First Tee of Benton Harbor chapter -Recipient cannot be a son or daughter of a The First Tee of Benton Harbor board member or staff -Apply to take advantage of The First Tee national opportunities Bennett Ryberg will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Flordia in the fall! We want to wish him and the other candidates a prosperous future and thank them for being apart of The First Tee of Benton Harbor family!
