Last night some of my docent friends and I did a pre-hike for a night hike that well be leading next week. I had thought the mygalomorph breeding season was pretty much over here, but we came upon a pair of Calisoga longitarsus (family Nemesiidae, Velveteen Tarantula) mating near the females burrow right in the middle of the trail. They were intent on their activities and paid no mind to the photographers. We also saw an interestingly UV-fluorescent cricket.
