Last night, the Chamber of Commerce allowed me to see bank records - TopicsExpress

Last night, the Chamber of Commerce allowed me to see bank records from January 2012 to June 2014. My hope was to get copies to keep, but the board will require me to pay 25 cents per page to get copies. I wasnt comfortable doing that because the chamber already owes the Daily Press (like several other entities) for previous bills. I asked for a fee waiver, or to even provide them with paper to make the copies, but Board President Stan Young said the cost is because the chamber is charged for each copy it makes. He said the board wouldnt back down from the charge. Its completely legal for them to charge that fee, though Id point out that in the time Ive been working for a newspaper – nearly nine years – an agency has never required payment for copies of open records. Regardless of those issues, I just used my trusty iPad to take photos of all pages - over 300 of them. With the help of my wife, Michelle, and TDP Staff Writer Teddye Snell, Ive gone through the records that show just how often the chamber bank card was being used in the past 30 months - and its a large number. Ill be breaking it down as best I can in the weekend Press. You might want to get a copy... - Josh
