Last night was very sad for our family. A kind and wonderful man - TopicsExpress

Last night was very sad for our family. A kind and wonderful man passed on. Although related to me by marriage (my daughter married his son) rather than by blood, he was an added warmth to our family circle. His son Dale wrote the attached tribute to his father. What a great relationship the two of them shared and what a wonderful man Dale is....a reflection of his fathers love. May God bless Bobs wife Marlyn, sons Dale and Dave, daughter-in-laws Della and Gina and his two beautiful granddaughters. The following is Dales tribute: Borrowed Time. When I was about 10 years old, I almost lost my father to complications from surgery but I didn’t know it. I was too young to be told just how serious it was. He would spend an entire year recovering from both the surgery and the uninvited infection that came with it. During this time he sat me down in a quiet moment and played me this song. He told me that it had been written by someone who loved his family very much but who also knew he was dying. He knew he would never be able to see or do all of the things he had dreamed he would with them and so he wrote this song. It wasn’t until decades later when I would learn just how serious my father’s sickness had been. When I looked back on the day when he played me this song I realized that he had been sending me a message that I could interpret years later, when I was ready, in case he didn’t make it. He did make it though, for another 32 years, and he did get the time to see both of his sons grow up after all. He watched them chase their dreams, saw them fulfill those dreams, and was eventually introduced to two of the next generation of dream chasers—two smart young ladies who would call him grandfather. My father passed away last night after a brief battle with cancer. He’s not gone because everything he taught and showed me during his borrowed time still lives within me and within anyone who has been lucky enough to have known him. I will always remember the message he sent. The song is above this.
