Last thursday we arrived in South-Africa for the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge. This is a mega cycle event in Johannesburg; one of the biggest ones in the world with 36.000 participants. Besides the Challenge there were races for different age groups, and professionals men & women. I was looking forward to the race, but as I had my last road race in September, I was also somewhat nervous. The girls from South-Africa were of course really motivated to make a good result, so I knew it would be hard. During the race though, I felt good and ready for a good battle. SA champion Ashleigh Moolman Pasio made clear her aspirations in attacks and pacing up the hill, so the group came down to 7. With 25 km. to go I attacked on a hill and the other girls hasitated for a while. When I saw that, I knew there was no other option than to start a time trial to the finish. Of course I was happy when I could build out my lead and finish solo. Thanks to Momentum for this great experience the last days at this Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge! Results: 1. Marianne Vos 2.
