Last week Facebook began rolling out more ways to control your news feed, and yesterday Facebook announced updates for increased user control over ads, its terms of service, and its data and cookie policies. Currently Facebook is asking for feedback from users through November 20th. This video explains how to use the latest controls for your feed: vimeo/111122883 Think of your Facebook feed as a mirror of your facebook usage. How you use news feed determines what you will see in the future. Dont like what you see in that mirror? Change your usage. With the latest updates news feed settings now show a list of the top people, pages and groups that you’ve seen in your feed over the past week. You can choose to sort by people, pages or groups posts, or see an overall summary. You can unfollow any you do not want to see in your feed while still remaining friends. Additionally Facebook will now provide a list of who you’ve unfollowed in the past so you can easily re-follow them at anytime you once again want to see their posts in your feed. According to yesterdays announcement, through the Digital Advertising Alliance users can opt out of seeing ads on Facebook based on the apps and sites you use. There remains the option of clicking to remove all ads by specific brands from your feed. If youre seeing posts in your feed you dont want to see, its because youve done something to indicate to Facebook you might want to see it. Send facebook a different message, and it will present different content in your feed. As before, the affinity, weight, and time decay of all posts by every profile, page and group you follow determine if that post appears in your feed, and how high (or low). Your feed can be catered to you if your feedback to posts is representative of the degree to which you want to see similar posts in your feed (or not). Simply put: engage with content you want to see more of by clicking like or share, clicking the links in the post, or leaving a comment. On the other hand, do not click on links, like, share etc to the types of content you do not want prioritized in your news feed, and unfollow those you never want to see in your feed. For pages that you want to see every post from (this one perhaps ;) ) you can create interest lists and/or click to receive notifications.
