Last week, Obamacare defenders were crowing that they were right - TopicsExpress

Last week, Obamacare defenders were crowing that they were right all along: the first insurance price quotes coming in from the New York and California exchanges were much lower than predicted. But hold on a minute. Forbes medical expert Avik Roy says there’s a flaw in that argument. They were comparing individual policies to small business group policies, which is like comparing apples and oranges. For instance, Roy notes that the Obamacare exchange price for a basic policy for a 25-year-old male non-smoker is $205 a month. Right now at eHealthInsurance, the average cost of the five cheapest comparable plans is $92. That’s a 123 percent price hike. There are similar cost increases in other categories, up to 146 percent. It’s something I’ve predicted for years, and not because I don’t like the President or I don’t want people to have health care. It’s just that as governor of Arkansas, I had to oversee the biggest insurance plan in the state: the one for government workers. And I can tell you that thinking you can add a lot more people with preexisting conditions, and vastly expand benefits, while making the price lower, is like saying, “I’m going to serve a steak dinner to 30 people, and it will cost less than serving peanut butter sandwiches to 10 people.” It’s a nice fantasy, but eventually, the waiter shows up with the check.
