Last week in the construction zone, traffic was down to one lane. - TopicsExpress

Last week in the construction zone, traffic was down to one lane. As the Eastbound lane began to creep forward, I passed two workers for whom the lanes had been closed.... One was heating the center stripe with a torch, and the other held a tool to scrape off the temporary striping. However, there was not scraping going on.... Why? Because the guys were heating and trying to remove not the temporary striping but the permanent painted one. Instead of removing the yellow striping to prepare for the painting of the white stripes, they were holding up traffic and wasting lots of time and money scorching paint stripes that were minding their own business dividing the East and Westbound lanes and were going to continue to do so.... It took me a moment to figure out what was wrong with that picture. If I had figured it out 30 seconds earlier, I would have put my window down and suggested that they go back where theyd started and going the opposite direction to find some stripes that actually needed to be removed.... Blowtorch guy, scraper guy, flagger at both ends--Hmmmmm. How much was paid out in salaries while those yahoos scorched a third of a mile of striping that was supposed to be left alone? Who finally said something to end the public group screw-up? How silly/ stupid did they feel? Every morning I drive past all that burnt yellow striping and laugh just imaging the look on everyones face when things finally clicked....
