Last year at this time we were battling record low temperatures. I - TopicsExpress

Last year at this time we were battling record low temperatures. I was worried about pipes freezing and had not slept well. I got up around 8 am and went into the studio to see how we were doing with the severe cold. Everything looked good and I went about my morning. At about 1030 in the morning I went back upstairs in the studio to grab a microphone and found the whole place filled with thick smoke. I opened a window and made my way to the front door where I knew was a fire extinguisher. By that time I noticed flames coming from an electrical subpanel so I ran and threw the main breaker. By that time I knew it was more than I could handle and called 911. I think it only took 7 minutes for the fire dept to arrive and I was frantically grabbing my most expensive guitars. When they arrived a super fearless firefighter went inside of the building that was fully engulfed with flames to do his recon. He was inside for what seemed like a long time but was only minutes. He came out and told his team what he found. The next thing they did was throw open the front doors and toss a 50 pound bag of salt on the floor because they were about to spray water and with the freezing temperatures it was going to freeze right away and they didnt want anybody to slip. a group of about a dozen firefighters ran inside with hoses pickaxes saws and other implements of destruction and proceeded to smash out every window cut holes in the walls and floors and roof. This is the point that I realized I did not know where my cat was and immediately began a frantic search for my cat who I did not find until much much later in that day. that alone had me completely freaked out. Within a matter of minutes I saw what amounted to about eight years or more of my hard work go up in flames. Over the course of the last year I have learned more about good people, bad people and what really counts than ever before. I was disgusted by the greediness of all the people trying to get in your pockets to get your insurance money, the competence and incompetence of contractors and I was impressed with the loyalty of my studio clients as well as the generosity and kindness of the most amazing group of friends a person could ask for. So here I am one year later, totally prepared to get back to work making music and enjoying this incredible space !
