Late afternoon hail and rain made for very sloppy racetrack conditions on night 2 of the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship – the first stop on the WPCA Pro Tour presented by Rocky Mountain Equipment and Case iH. Weather conditions were once again a little on the cool side under overcast skies, and when the mud finished splattering, it was THE 1999 Grande Prairie Champion Troy Dorchester who won the day money after posting the top time of 1:19.19. Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 7, Dorchester, driving the Lafarge Canada Ltd. outfit placed first overall for the day by 47 one-hundredths of a second over 2013 Grande Prairie finalist Mike Vigen. Gary Gorst, Codey McCurrach and Rae Croteau Jr. rounded out the top 5 on the night. After two days, Troy Dorchester leads the overall aggregate standings with a two run total of 2:38.71. Sophomore driver Chad Fike sits second overall, 57 one-hundredths of a second behind the overall leader, with Codey McCurrach and Tim Haroldson completing the top four overall. Gary Gorst is on the outside looking in, sitting 5th overall, a mere 8 one-hundredths of a second out of a qualifying spot in Sunday’s championship final heat. The top wagon in the aggregate after Saturdays run will receive the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday night will go into the championship final heat on Sunday where the winner will receive a $25,000.00 winner’s cheque, a new GMC Truck, and the Grande Prairie Stompede Championship. The Grande Prairie Stompede is also the first leg of the Sierra Cup series presented by GMC.
