Late goal helps Nadi Arin Kumar Monday, March 10, 2014 A LATE goal from Jone Salauneune broke Rewas heart as Nadi won 1-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday. Rewa controlled the match but a blunder from Apisai Smith cost them dearly on their home ground. Smith tried the pass the ball back to his goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau but he slipped in the process and the ball went past Tamanisau and onto the path of fast approaching Salauneune who calmly placed the ball into the open goalmouth. Tamanisau was playing his first match for Rewa in two years after returning from Liberia but it was his opposite, Beniamino Mateniqara who stole the show. The Nadi goalkeeper made crucial saves to keep a clean sheet in the match. Nadi coach Kamal Swamy said the win was a bonus as some key players were missing from the squad. A key few players like William Valentine, Shameen Buksh and Rahul Krishna did not come in the last minute today (yesterday), he said. But those who did play did really well and we are happy to come away with the three points. Rewa coach Marika Rodu rued missed opportunities but commended his young players on the way they played. I was just disappointed with the missed chances and the silly mistake that led to the goal Overall I was happy with the way we played, we had more possession and more control and now we will just have to go back to the drawing board to build up from where we are.
