Late night thoughts on Ebola: Or, how to save humanity: Or, an open letter to the CDC. Disclaimer: I confess that the following is the product of exhaustion, too little sleep, too much stress, and too much bourbon. Nonetheless, I advance the idea for comment. Intentionally infect volunteer health care workers with Ebola (Yes, I would volunteer). Before they become symptomatic, while they are still in the incubation period, treat them with antibodies from prior survivors of Ebola. I estimate a 95% survival rate. This strategy will create a population of health care providers who are immune to Ebola and can treat and save people from the ravages of the disease. Then, as the number of survivors accumulate, they can provide plasma containing antibodies, expanding the pool of immune health care providers. Admittedly, this is a risky plan. But I perceive us to be in a desperate situation. Comments???
