Lately I have considered what a pathetic example I have been as a Christian. Shame precludes my providing you with specifics. Since my retirement I have spoken at CHP forums about life with an autistic child. During my motorcycle ride home from one of these forums yesterday I had time to reflect. I love my son and I can’t even fathom living in a world without Sean Thomas. Nevertheless, the emotional high of my life was the birth of Brittany Lee, my firstborn. This little girl was thrust into an untenable situation, not of her making. When Sean was young, she was the only person who could make him laugh. When I was a single Dad, she rolled up her sleeves, changed diapers, cleaned up disgusting messes, and manifested an unshakeable love for her brother. Her only sin was having a father too obtuse to make a better way. I love the doting mother she has become! And then it hit me; God REALLY loves me! And Brittany Lee is one of His greatest proofs of this! He hasn’t stopped there. He gave me Patty and her daughters April and Ash A Lynn who have both been wonderful big sissies! But, I want you to know Peanut, words will never be sufficient to praise your contribution to this family.
