Lately Ive been reading a lot of articles (and several listicles, lets be honest) about emotionally unavailable women. For one thing, it seems to me that the term itself manages to state that it is both the opposite of the traditional stereotype and yet equally as negative. But Im more concerned with the notion that emotionally unavailable is a characteristic being assigned to millennial women - specifically those that are ambitious business types. In a particularly misguided article (misguided on several points) written from the perspective of a self-proclaimed feminist female millennial, modern women are too busy with their ambitions and busy schedules to enjoy anything so frivolous as cuddle time. She also indicates that love is just unfamiliar territory for these women - as it conflicts with their feminist ideals - which is why theyre so bad at it. It appears to be a reactionary push against the stereotypically frail and dependent woman of yester-year, but I feel that it just brings us from one box to another. There are women who express their emotions more comfortably or intensely than others, and there are women who are more interested and driven in their relative business-y fields than others, but the two things are separate. I personally feel that I am an ambitious young woman, but Ill be damned if I dont demand cuddles and affection upon arriving home from a full day of work. >:3 This status is so long Im not even sure if it makes sense anymore. But! If anyone made it this far... thoughts?
