Lately, because i am back to selling advertising, i do a lot of lunch meetings in posh places dotted across the city. The fancy new malls of acacia, the swanky places in Kololo and all those places that do foreign cuisine. Strangely, there are not where you will typically find the rich of this town. You are more likely to find them on Buganda Rd, at Saunas like Sophies where they sell Katogo and the bill can never exceed 30K unless you have eaten a whole cow. Today, i observed one multi millionaire (in dollars) who i shared a table with and i was surprised when he insisted he needed his coins as change back. he even counted them properly and put them in his wallet which had wads of dollars. I checked his car and its the same car i saw him driving 3 years back! I was amused. Whereas rich people continue to be richer because they act like they are poor, we poor people continue to drain the little we have to appear rich. Often, we spend money buying things we cant afford with money we dont have to impress people that dont care. And thats where the problem starts. Thats the reason i love Amnesia, there is no staring crowd. Everyone is respected. You dont have to show off cos even if you tried, no one will pay attention.
