Lately there have been some inaccuracies quoted on Facebook about Consett Cats. We would like to set the record straight. 1. The first Consett cat chat group was discontinued by admin and everyone who wanted to, were moved over to the new group because we wanted to change the name to match the charity name (Consett Cats). On Facebook if a group has more than 250 members, you cannot change the name. Also the web address (the etc address) was incorrect for the group in that it had dogs and cats in the address and the group is only cat related. 2. Consett Cats is a charity and as such follows charity commission guidelines for everything we do. It is true we are a small charity as our income is less than £5000 per year. Any charity with income per annum of less than £5000 per year cannot get registered by the charity commission because they are too small. We can however be registered with HMRC for tax purposes and we are almost through that process and will have our tax reference number shortly. Should we ever expand beyond that figure we will apply for charity commission registration. full details on the rules and regulations are available to everyone on the charity commission website. 3.Everyone on the board of trustees and anyone else who helps out with any of the work done by the charity are all unpaid volunteers. Many of us have full time jobs which often actually subsidise the running of the charity. All of the equipment, the stationary, the fuel, and often food and cat litter as well as some medication is provided out of volunteers own pockets. 4. Almost all the money raised by the charity is spent on vet bills which run to several hundreds of pounds per month. The remainder (a tiny amount) was spent on buying flea treatments. Despite the fact we have kept receipts for other items that have been purchased - stationary, cat food, cat litter, litter trays, flea treatments, the only cheques ever written from the charity bank account have been to our vets. A tiny amount was spent on buying flea treatments. If anyone would like to know more about the workings of the charity, they are more than welcome to get in touch.
