Latest: Armed police were dispatched to Southend this morning after a woman was stabbed at a house in Westcliff. Police officers and paramedics found the 26-year-old woman with stab wounds in Park Street at around 9.30am today. An Air Ambulance was called and landed nearby on a grass area behind the Homebase store. The victim was flown to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries. Park Street was closed off to preserve the crime scene as multiple police units and detectives arrived. Police immediately began a search for the attacker which led the armed police to stop a vehicle on Southend seafront, near Southchurch Park, at about 10.30am. The armed police detained the 42-year old man on Eastern Esplanade. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Multiple roads around the area including Plas Newydd were closed whilst the incident unfolded. A second air ambulance was also called to the seafront, landing on the beach, reportedly becuase the suspect had sustained injuries.
