Latest Laser Tech Launched in Chennai Amrit Medicare has introduced LenSx Laser equipment — the latest technology to be used in carrying out cataract surgeries. This advanced precision-based technology is a computer controlled system that is used to make incisions in the cataract. LenSx uses a laser source to produce femtosecond laser pulses which are precisely aimed at specified targets in the eye. It is a bladeless procedure performed in a relaxed setting and requiring only local anaesthesia.“This machine makes a surgeon’s life easier. The chance of an error happening is next to nil and it also reduces the surgical time to half,” said S Lalith Kumar, Director and Consultant, Aswini Eye Care — Amrit Hospital. The machine has a computer controller that allows surgeons to perform clinical procedures with accuracy. “Surgeons can very quickly learn to use this machine as everything is mechanised and the skill involved is less,” added Lalith Kumar. This LenSx equipment bought by Amrit Hospital is manufactured by Alcon in the US and is the first such machine to be introduced in Chennai. The machine has the latest upgrades and will be available at the hospital’s new surgical facility in Kilpauk. A hospital release also said that the facility is open to ophthalmologists in the city to make use of the facility to treat their patients.
