Latest News From Ukrainian Protests_06.03.2014 12.58 Interfax-Ukraine: The proposed referendum on the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has been moved from March 30 to March 16. The Crimean Supreme Council passed a resolution on the holding of the Crimean referendum, including in Sevastopol, on Thursday, the press centre of the Crimean parliament reported. According to the document, the referendum ballot paper will contain two questions: 1. Do you support Crimeas reunification with Russia? 2. Do you support the restoration of the Constitution of the Crimean Republic dated 1992 and Crimeas status as a part of Ukraine? The question which gets most votes will be seen as a direct expression of the will of the population of Crimea, the document reads. The Crimean parliament also addressed President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Federal Assembly of the State Duma of the Russian Federation with a proposal to initiate the procedure of Crimeas joining Russia as a subject of the Russian Federation. 12.45 Interfax-Ukraine: It is for Ukraine to decide on the way it wants to develop its relations with NATO, Secretary General of the Alliance Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said. Its for the Ukrainians to decide their future relationship with NATO, Rasmussen said at a press conference held following a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council on Wednesday. At the same time, the alliance decided to intensify its partnership with Ukraine, and strengthen their cooperation to support democratic reforms, he said adding that NATO will step up its engagement with the Ukrainian civilian and military leadership. Rasmussen also confirmed its decision made back in 2008 at the NATO Summit in Bucharest that Ukraine will become members of NATO, if Ukrainian so wish, and if they fulfill the necessary criteria. 12.32 Interfax-Ukraine: State Enterprise Chornomornaftogaz (Simferopol, Crimea) has expressed alarm at the violation of a fenced-off area where the companys Armiansk-Dzhankoi trunk high-pressure gas pipeline runs, the press service of the company told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday, March 5. The press service said that near the Armiansk-Dzhankoi gas pipeline the fenced-off area of gas transportation is violated. Two defense lines, weapon emplacements with mortars and machine-guns are installed and the fenced-off area of the gas pipeline has been mined. At the PK-4 crossing of the gas pipeline one of two meters far from the pipeline an armored personnel carrier (APC) has been dug in. The company also said that the trunk gas pipeline of Kharkivtransgaz goes in parallel 30 meters far from the Chervony Chaban-Dzhankoi gas pipeline of Chornomornaftogaz. Earlier the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine said that it is inadmissible to interfere in operation of the enterprises of the fuel and energy complex located in Crimea. The ministry also warned that responsibility for social, manmade and ecological consequences from such interference is imposed on persons initiating the disorganization of operation of the enterprises. Chornomornaftogaz is developing the Ukrainian sectors of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov shelves. It also produces hydrocarbons at fields in the Crimea, in addition to operating the Hlibovske underground gas storage facility and trunk gas pipelines located on the peninsula.
