Latest info received this morning 18th September 2013 from Press Office at Dept of Agriculture Food & Marine in Dublin. Hopefully this will allay the fears expressed in the last few days but would suggest printing off this document and carry with you if you are travelling across the water. Joyce ............................................................................................................. Please see reply below to your query: The EU requirements for pet dogs, cats and ferrets moving from Ireland to GB (i.e. across Irish Sea, either directly or via Northern Ireland) are: EU Pet Passport (obtainable from your vet) showing – · Microchip identification · Valid rabies vaccination (i.e. administered according to the manufacturer’s protocol). The primary (first) rabies vaccination must be administered at least 21 days before travel. Note – no echinococcus (tapeworm) treatment required. Additional requirements apply for commercial exports (i.e. sale of change of ownership), but as show dogs are not intended to be sold these additional requirements would not apply. Pets from Ireland do not have to travel on a designated ‘approved route’ into GB. As both Ireland and the UK are rabies free, on a risk analysis basis, Ireland does not currently implement border compliance checks on pets travelling to or coming from the UK. I look forward to a reply as soon as possible. Joyce ----- Original Message ----- From: Des Manton To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, September 16, 2013 3:18 PM Subject: FAO Mary Dear Mary, Further to our telephone conversation a few minutes ago, I would be grateful if you could give me the latest update on the rules/regulations relating to travelling with dogs to and from Great Britain from any ports in the Republic of Ireland and also for people travelling from the Republic, through Northern Ireland ports, to GB and back home. I ask on behalf of the concerned dog show fraternity, who regularly travel back and forth from ports in the Republic, and also Northern Ireland, to show their dogs in GB.. As there are dog shows nearly every weekend, both here and across the water, many people have already bookings made with the ferry companies, and are intending to travel to shows shortly, but are now in limbo, as they are worried about having their dogs confiscated. If indeed it is true that a Pet Passport is to be introduced, acn you please confirm what the requirements will be eg: rabies, worming etc. and also if this is to be enforced by the authorities in Ireland prior to travel, or by the British authorities, on arrival in GB, and if so, what are the designatad routes. I would be grateful for a swift response - later this afternoon if possible.
