Layering drums.. An important part of making D&B Drums is layering. Its very tempting to just start chucking layers of break loops & percussion on top of each other, but this is a bad idea for two main reasons. Firstly, messy drum mixes can often remove the important smack, transients and definition from the drum sounds, actually resulting in making your beat weaker. Secondly, adding extra layers uses up valuable head room, so if you have a lot of excess noises in your beat, you arent going to be able to make it as loud in the mix as you might want to. In my experience, the best thing to do is to be very Judge mental when adding the layers to your breaks. You need to really ask yourself, do they need to be there? what is each layer bringing to the overall sound of the drums and is it making a crucial difference.. Heist-advice
