Leadership is so sweet; especially due to the respect and attention that you receive from your followers and other admirers. However, a true leader realizes that their calling is the most challenging and daunting task on the face of the earth (this is a reason enough to make you serve in humility). If you are a leader, or you desire to lead one day, please take note of the following about true leaders (NB: the term ‘follower’ is used synonymously with ‘subordinate’): -They recognize that they are called by God to facilitate man’s duty of stewardship; hence they take care of the resources entrusted to them with fear and acknowledgement of the Creator (and they invest in order to get more returns and increase wealth); -They are empathetic and always desire to leave their followers in a different state and better than they found them; -They are not selfish; to the extent that they help to raise a crop of leaders that can ably succeed them and do even mightier things (does this tell you something about what Jesus told His disciples that they will be able to do much more than what they saw Him do during His time on earth?); -They are the first ones to call for duty and face the dangers and fears of their system (nation, organization, etc) before their followers (they don’t send their followers on errands they wouldn’t want to execute themselves); -They are not afraid to share their plans and vision; because only by doing so would they get a buy-in from their followers (it’s a serious mistake to follow ‘leaders’ who, themselves, don’t know where they are going because you might get blinded and never get to know whether you have arrived or not. In fact, you will never arrive!) -They are servants and they don’t seek recognition for their efforts. This comes automatically as they continue to do good (they don’t even seek tittles for doing their job because their achievements are tangible, and true recognition for them is when lives are being positively impacted through their efforts); -They don’t over-celebrate their past achievements. Every successful story pushes them to be better and to do much more than past successes (it is shameful to continue singing your own song to your followers about accolades that have since gathered dust); -They recognize the efforts of their followers/subordinates and always ensure to promote them where due (they are able to create equal opportunities for their followers so that everyone should be able to choose for themselves whether they want to succeed, or remain followers for ever more); -They enjoy abundant life and always ensure that their followers are not left behind (they live it big in all facets of their life. This does not connote extravagance in the face of struggling followers (In fact, who would praise a leader who lives lavishly when a lot of his/her followers are lacking basic necessities to survive?). You will tell me if this is simple!
