Learn your history! During the Age of Exploration four major European countries laid claim to the New World, England, Spain, Portugal and France. When the pilgrims made it over they proceeded to wipe out most of the indigenous population in order to steal the land. They then needed slaves for farming and to build on the land so they went to the west coast of Africa for that very reason the Atlantic Slave Trade was then born. The reason why Haitians speak French was because they were brought from Africa to Haiti as slaves by the French. The reason Brazilians speak Portuguese is because they were brought from Africa to Brazil as slaves by Portugal. Black people in America speak English because we were brought from Africa to America as slaves by the English. Many countries in latin America went through the same process. Some of the Europeans and Africans also got together and had children with mixed features. Many of the indigenous people survived during the conquest and were also enslaved. They now speak Spanish as a result of it as well such the Mayans and Aztecs mainly from Mexico and Central America. We are are all one. Remember that and dont let difference in language divide and fool you. Its a really good opportunity to learn something new and rebuild unity. Peace
