Learning just now of the death of Rev. Dr. Boyd Carter, long-time minister of Chapel on the Hill. Boyd studied family systems thinking with Ed Friedman, and led from that standpoint. He was a mentor, meeting with me in his office almost every Thursday morning for four years, helping me understand dynamics in my ministry through the lens of systems thinking, helping me loosen up, to see different angles, to figure out playful responses to stressful situations. Im grateful for his life, his ministry to Oak Ridge, and especially for his willingness to invest his precious time in a overly-confident and mostly-clueless minister.
