Leaving a fancy restaurant in a busy restaurant district the other - TopicsExpress

Leaving a fancy restaurant in a busy restaurant district the other night (Hillcrest) and a young man passed by us in shambly clothing and said very quietly, Do you have any food to spare, Miss? He was walking toward us and disappeared behind me in a flash. I was so accustomed to turning aside the constant requests for cash, having been burned by those who pretend to be needy at every stoplight, that I didnt realize what hed said for a moment. Thankfully, Joseph echoed, Are you going to give him your leftovers? I didnt even answer Joseph and Im grateful the guy was still close enough for me to chase him down & extend the box to him. I was also grateful that Id left him two nice thick slices of pork tenderloin and some risotto and wished Id eaten less! Ive been seriously without food or money for days on end, so a little of my heart went with it. I wished I could do more for that man -- but I knew he will find his way out soon. He asked the right question. Hes a man who is actually in charge of his life: smart enough to know the right question and when and where to ask it and of whom.
