Lee Ann Womacks new record The Way Im Livin is the best money Ive spent in the last 6 years. 6 years because thats when her last record, Call Me Crazy, came out. Ive not heard a body of work that has brought such joy and inspiration my way since Ive lived in Nashville. I bought Call Me Crazy the week I moved to Nashville and hadnt made any friends yet, and can recall the butterflies in my stomach not unlike those I have right now. I just drove around attempting to sing along to these new songs but could hardly sing because I was so choked up. Then the choked up turned into the ugly cry. Really ugly cry. I was in a neighborhood where parents were walking their children in strollers shielding them from the hideous crying that was happening in a black Mazda passing by. My humble opinion may not be worth much more than a pot of sheeeeit, but I just cant find a time or a song or a record where it seemed she was ever compromising. I wish I could say that about some of my other most beloved artists. Her taste in songs, her vocal choices and the productions on all of these records!!! Its such a remarkable career. I wish shed release records every 5 minutes, but I cant help feeling like theres a great big reason this music held off for 6 years and came to my silly life right now because I need it more than ever.
